Abstract

567,862. Locking nuts. BIRCHALL, F. Aug. 31, 1943, No. 14162. [Class 89 (i)] Self-locking nuts are provided with an extension 12 in a counterbore of which is bonded a ring of resilient rubber-like material moulded, in situ and provided with an incompletely formed thread 14 continuing that of the nut. The thread is formed thicker but is truncated so that the cross-sectional area is about equal to that of the standard thread. In the case of a steel nut the counterbored recess is preferably coated with brass deposited electrolytically or by spraying and a rubbery material is chosen that bonds to brass but not to steel.
