Abstract
567.226. Automatic guns. ROE & CO., Ltd., A. V., BEASLEY, C. R. A., and BARNETT, C. W. Sept. 1, 1939, No. 25095. [Class 92 (ii)] Relates to gas-operated guns in which the breech block is automatically cocked by gas pressure and returned to firing position by a spring, and consists in preventing accidental fire by positively locking the sear holding the breech block cocked, the lock being released by hydraulic means which also moves the sear to fire only when the external cocking ram has returned to the " in " position. Fig. 6 shows the position of parts when the sear a has been operated to release the breech block (not shown) from its rear position to fire the gun. The pressure supply to the sear-operating plunger g is controlled from a firing-valve x connecting pressure pipe u with pipe z which supplies pressure liquid to plunger g only when pipe lines p, q have been cleared through an isolating-valve o by the return of the cocking-ram m. The plunger g moves a hook d to depress the sear a through a lever i and also operates a lever c Fig. 6a to unlock the spring plunger b which returns the sear when valve x is connected with exhaust pipe v. Lever c then returns to lock the plunger b to prevent accidental fire. The cocking-valve w controls the pressure supply from a pipe t through pipes y, 4 to the cocking-ram m and also through passage 3 to a plunger f for releasing the lever lock c on the plunger b.
