567,178. Flexible abrasive sheets. ABBEY, A. (Carborundum Co.). Dec. 18, 1942, No. 18038. Drawings to Specification. [Class 60] Flexible abrasive sheet material suitable for abrasive discs or belts, comprises a layer of abrasive particles attached to a composite backing formed from sheets of cloth, highly hydrated felted cellulosic fibres, and less highly hydrated felted cellulosic fibres, which sheets are secured together, e.g. by a heat-hardenable synthetic resin adhesive. The highly hydrated cellulosic fibre sheet may be vulcanized fibre, parchment paper, or a paper made from pulp hydrated by prolonged mechanical beating, e.g. 8-40 hours. The less highly hydrated cellulosic fibre sheet may be kraft paper. The abrasive particles may be secured to the combined felted cellulosic fibre sheets through the intermediary of the cloth sheet.
