Abstract

A securing or suction device for dentures is preformed approximately to mate with the contacting surfaces of the denture and the wearer's palate, or jaw, and is made of a material which is not plastic at normal body temperature, but will become plastic at a higher temperature, within the range of body tolerance, becoming non-plastic again when cooled to normal body temperature. The wearer, having selected an appropriate suction member, plasticizes it by immersion in water, or by pouring upon it water at about 70 DEG C., while it is placed upon the denture, whereon the denture and the plastic suction device are put in the wearer's mouth and pressure applied between the jaws to mould it between the denture and the palate or jaw. It is retained in the mouth until cooled to normal body temperature, when it is again non-plastic. Any surplus material at the edges is removed by a knife or scissors. The suction member, which remains unattached from the denture, may be made from a compound consisting of Balata 80 per cent, precipitated chalk 10 per cent, kaolin 5 per cent and zinc oxide 5 per cent. Pure para rubber and ceresine wax may be used, or, alternatively. "Paragutta" (Registered Trade Mark).
