[Class 81 (ii).] The denture comprises a rigid plate in which the recess for the gums is lined with material, such as a soft - rubber composition, which is resilient at body temperature but deformable at 212‹ F., or at a temperature within 50‹ F. above, or slightly above, body temperature, so that the lined denture may be moulded on a plaster model of the gums, or in the mouth. A suitable rubber composition comprises 80 parts of purified balata with 20 parts of first latex crÛpe rubber, without sulphur or other vulcanizer. Guttapercha may be used in place of balata, and any clean crepe rubber in place of the first latex crepe. Pigments &c. may be added. In making the denture, a sheet of soft tin or of paper &c. is shaped over the plaster model, and the denture, Fig. 3, is formed on this plate 6 instead of on the model. The plate 6 is tried in the mouth whilst the teeth are in wax. The plate 6 is removed from the denture, leaving an oversized recess for the gums. The recess is coated with cement, the lining material 11, Fig. 5, also coated with cement is pressed in warm, and the denture is placed in the flask 12 which is filled with sand &c. and placed under pressure for 3 or 4 hours. The lined denture is finally heated and moulded on the model and then in the mouth. It may be re:fitted to the mouth after use if there is any change in the contour of the gums. Partial dentures may be made in the same manner. The flask and cover, Fig. 5, are formed with curved fillets 14a, 15a which reduce the volume of sand, direct the flow, and increase the pressure on the denture. The sand is worked down bv rotating the cover of the flask by means of the knobs 15b.
