Abstract
566,664. Seed - sowing machines. CARGILL, S. April 3, 1943, No. 5357. [Class 6(i)] Seed from a hopper is lifted by a piston K and directed by a flap F into a conduit C. Changeable gearing from the ground wheel A drives the piston K through the connecting- rod M, and is shown as a chain of five toothed wheels. The piston is long-skirted and provided with a rounded recess D of a size sufficient to retain one seed. The flap F is pivoted on a cross-rod in the hood E and pushed forward to expel the seed against the action of a spring J. The tube C leads by way of an intermediate section B<1> to the hollow part E<1> of the drillopener D<1> and the outlet J<1>. The sowing depth is adjusted by the hand wheel G<1> on the vertical screw F<1> of which the lower end is lodged in the block U<1> carrying the opener D<1>. Soil-replacing plates L<1> are adjustably suspended from the ring N<1> by a short chain, the other end of which is fixed in a keyhole slot on the chassis. Several sowing devices may be mounted abreast in a partitioned hopper to which seed is supplied from a main hopper, having a floor, the slope of which is regulated by a pawl and ratcheted bar T<1>.
