Abstract
638,193. Seed-sowers. PLATT, J. April 20, 1948, Neo. 10827. [Class 6 (i)] A seed-sowing device comprises a rotary cylinder member 18 including a plurality of axially-disposed and angularly-arranged cylinders 6, each cylinder having an orifice 37 leading to a seedselecting jet 19 which dips into a seed box 20 to pick up seeds, and having also a piston 9 attached to a rod 8 the end of which beats against a cam surface disposed obliquely to the axis of the rotary member 18. As shown in Fig. 1, the cam surface comprises an inclined circular disc 15 hinged to the end wall 16 of the device and adjustably pressed forward by a screw 17, but the surface may be contoured and formed on the end face of a cylinder rotatable in the casing 3 of the device. The jets comprise nozzles having a narrow bore and a cupped end capable of holding a seed during the suction part of the cycle. The jets may be formed in a ring 35 (Fig. 8) surrounding the cylinder member, and there may be a series of jets 36, so formed, any of which may be brought into register with the appropriate orifice 37 in the cylinder. The rotary cylinder may be power-driven or driven from the wheels of the carriage on which the device is mounted. Specification 582,953 is referred to.
