Abstract
566,636. Magnetic separators. BROWN, J. W., CALDWELL, J., and HIPWELL, C. July 3, 1943, No. 10815. [Class 72] Electromagnets G are disposed in a fixed frame F all round the outer surface of, but not touching, the downwardlyinclined open-ended drum A of brass or other non-ferrous metal, the drum being provided with annular channels B which engage supporting wheels C journalled in bearings D mounted on bars E and being driven by the engagement of a toothed ring P with a pinion q on the shaft of a motor Q. Two rings R, R<1> of ferrous metal are disposed inside and near the exit end of the drum, each with its inner face sloped upwardly and are energized from the magnets G<1>, G<2> of opposite polarity. The other rows of magnets are of opposite polarity alternately. Longitudinal slats N of non-ferrous metal and rings V of the same metal are secured to the drum as shown in Fig. 1. A shoot J is pivoted at j to the frame and is held during the separating process in the position shown by electromagnets M, but when not in use is tipped up by a weight j.
