Abstract
557,810. Magnetic separators THOMPSON, H. H., and DAVIES, A. E. March 25, 1943, No. 4037/42. [Class 72] In a magnetic separator of the type in which a clearing belt e travels in the same direction as the conveyer belt a at the same speed as or a slightly higher speed than the latter, the magnet system comprises magnetic windings j provided with two common pole pieces k which have flat horizontal pole shoes l which taper in thickness towards their inner edges. Granular &c. material is fed on to the belt a by a shoot c and as the pulley g is magnetic, material attracted by the magnet system is carried round the pulley g and deposited in a collector h. The pole shoes may have the outline shown in Fig. 3, one being provided with a tongue n to avoid a possible neutral spot at the centre of the magnet, and the belt e may be provided with magnetizable fingers or feelers p. Non-magnetic material is deposited in the hopper-d.
