Abstract
589,558. Magnetic separators. RICHARDSON, H. G. Sept. 11, 1944, No. 17315. [Class 72] [Also in Group XXXV] To enable the periodic removal of the magnetic particles adhering to the poles situated above a magnet or magnets and forming the floor of a shoot or duct over which the materials flow the magnet or magnets and the pole pieces are relatively slidable by hand in a lateral direction so that while some of the poles are stationary over the magnets, the others occupy stationary out of service positions so that the accumulated magnetic particles can be removed. Two sets of poles a<SP>1</SP> comprising an iron bar separated by non-magnetic material c form the floor of the shoot b arranged over permanent magnets a and are separated by a bar d of non- magnetic material. The poles a' are carried by a frame e movable transversely in guides f by a rack g engaging a pinion h on a shaft i operable by a hand wheel k. Electromagnets may be used instead of permanent magnets and transverse strips m may be mounted over the poles to form a serrated base or floor in the duct b. Instead of two sets of poles alone set may be used so that one half of them are in action while the other half are out of action. The magnets may be moved instead of the poles a.
