Abstract

565,940. Appliance holders for disabled persons. SEAGRIM, A. H., and RONLEZ, E. L. J. May 20, 1943, No. 8001. [Class 81 (ii)] A tool &c. holder for use by a person with a disabled or amputated arm, comprises an elongated body member 1 having an enlargement 2 at one end and means, e.g. a screwed bush 3 and clamping screw 4, for holding a tool &c. 14, and means, e.g. an elastic strap 10 carried by the member 1, whereby it may be retained beneath the armpit of the person so that the enlarged end 2 beds against the forearm and body of the person to prevent the holder from shifting backwards. The body 1 is preferably of circular cross-section throughout its length and is bored at 6 to accommodate the tool &c. The bore of the bush 3 is preferably flattened on its surface opposite to the screw 4 and also provided with a groove of small radius to effect the efficient clamping of small-diameter tools. The holder may incorporate a socket member having spring-pressed balls which engage in recesses formed in the stem of the appliance, a spring-pressed lever engaging in a groove therein. Locking is effected by a milled sleeve. The socket may be provided with a universal movement and suitable locking means therefor.
