Abstract

395,398. Chucks. ENGLUND, G. A., 270, Fern Street, West Hartford, Connecticut, U.S.A. Jan. 13, 1932, No. 1055. [Class 83 (iii).] A chuck for holding drills, taps, &c. comprises a body 6 having inclined holes for the main jaws 7 which are toothed to engage a screwed ring 8 attached to a rotatable sleeve 9. The gripping surfaces of the jaws have longitudinal grooves 11, Fig. 3, which provide teeth 12 at the sides for gripping the cylindrical shank 10 of a tool. For taps having a square portion 14 at the end of the shank, further jaws 16, Fig. 4, are provided in inclined holes 15 in the body 6 and are maintained by springs 20 in contact with a conical surface 23 on a ring 21 screwing on the chuck body.
