Abstract

Sockets; attachments for tapping.-A tap or like chuck or socket comprises two parts 10, 14 having corresponding holes 18, 19 of varying sizes, to take shearing-pins 17 of desired strength. Each hole 18 has a spring pin 21 to keep the pin 17 in position. The tap 25 may be held in position by a spring-pressed detent 24, and the part 10 of the socket may be reversible, and provided with a second set of holes 19, to allow the squared end of the hole 27 to be outermost, so that the full length of the tap can be utilized. The socket 14 may be combined with frictional driving-means comprising two friction cones 33, 34 secured to the stem 15 of the socket 14 by keys 36, 37 and engaging correspondingly-shaped surfaces in a sleeve. The cone 33 is adjustable by a graduated nut 35 to regulated. the frictional grip.
