Abstract

565,755. Needles for knitting- machines. F.N.F., Ltd., BOLDEN, G. L., and PEEL, R. March 30, 1943, No. 5114. [Class 74 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] A machine knitting needle having a tubular shank has the whole of one end 4 swaged to form a pin bent to the shape of a hook, the pin being offset to one side of the shank 1 and an opening 6 being formed in the other side for the passage of a tongue 2 which alternately overlaps the needle hook and is withdrawn into the shank. The needle may be made of carbon steel, and the tongue may be of stainless steel or of phosphor bronze. The swaging may be effected in stages with intermediate annealing. After the hook has been bent to shape, the needle may be hardened, tempered, ground and polished. The swaging operation may be carried out in a rotary swaging machine.
