[Class 83 (iv)] An apparatus for bending tubes or rods comprises a bed with at least a pair of guide slots at an angle to one another in which thrust members are slidably displaced sequentially by a cam member movable relatively to the bed in each slot to force the tube &c. round a former located on the bed with its point of maximum curvature adjacent the ends of the guide slots where they are at a minimum distance apart. The tube &c. 19 is placed against a former 3 on a bed 1 adjacent slots 4, '5 with wearing strips of tough fibrous material forming guides for a pair of thrust members 6, 7 which are operated in turn by the inclined portions of cam members 14, 15, attached to members 13, 12 carried by a bridgepiece 11 and pushed down in slots in the bed by a press ram. The cam members may be faced with fibre. The member 6 first moves to bend the tube &c. over the former and bring the projecting end in the path of the member 7 which thereupon completes the bend round the former. The members 6 and 7 are returned by springs when the bridge-piece 11 is raised by springs on withdrawal of the ram. In a modification, Fig. 9, the tube &c. 33 is held between a block 32 and a former 23, round which it is bent sequentially or in pairs one after the other by pairs of thrust members 30, 26, 31, 27. Thus it may be bent first by pairs of thrust members 30, 26 and then by pairs of thrust members 31, 27. These members are traversed in guide slots in the bed by cam members 44, 42, 43, 41, secured to members 40, 37, 39, 38 depending from a bridge-piece operated by the press ram as in the previous form. In another form, a pair of formers 63, 53 may be used each co-operating with a pair of thrust members 49, 51, 50, 52 respectively to form an S-bend, the thrust members 49, 50 effecting the first bends.
