Abstract

564,758. Lathe centres. DEHN, F. B. (Motor Tool Manufacturing Co.). April 6. 1943, No. 5502. [Class 83 (iii)] In a live centre for lathes &c. the spindle 18 is mounted at 12 in a needle bearing whose inner race 11 is axially movable relatively to the outer race 6 and is engaged by a flange 13 on the spindle so as to transmit the axial pressure through a ball thrust bearing 16 on to a resilient washer 17 of cork. The rear end of the spindle is supported in smaller needle bearings 9, 10, in the housing 4, and the larger bearing is protected by a flexible rubber seal 19.
