Abstract

564,581. Hydraulic transmission of power. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Dec. 7, 1942, No. 17398. Convention date, Feb. 26, 1942. [Class 69 (ii)] In a hydraulic motor for use in aeroplanes having piston locking means 44 or 74 adapted to be released by incoming pressure fluid, a valve 52 or 82 in the pressure inlet to the cylinder is opened mechanically by the locking means as it is released. Pressure liquid supplied at 53 acts on a piston 60 to raise the latch 44 against the pressure of a spring until an abutment 54 on the latch opens a valve 52 and admits pressure liquid to the cylinder. Piston 16 is then moved to the right until an enlargement 22 on the rod enters a restricted portion 70 of the cylinder to act as a dashpot and reduce the speed. Exhaust takes place through passages 76 in the latch 74 until the latch engages a shoulder 22a on the enlargement 22 and locks the piston at the end of the stroke. For the return stroke pressure fluid is supplied at 86 to raise the latch 76 until it opens valve 82 and admits pressure to the cylinder. At the end of the stroke, latch 44 engages a shoulder 20a on the dashpot enlargement 20. The latches may be raised manually by rods 68, 96. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states also that the rod 68 may operate a switch on a signalling circuit. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
