Abstract

564,371. Paper &c. containers. HOSKING, H. G. W. April 8, 1943, No. 5657. [Class 66] Paper &c. containers are rendered impermeable to moisture by applying to the inner wall a thin casing 10 having a longitudinal tab 5 produced by jointing the inner surfaces of the marginal portions of a blank coated with, or made of, an impermeable substance or composition. The casing 10 may be made of thin paper with the coating 2 on the inside and then placed on a mandrel and paper wound thereon to form the container 8. The casing may be secured to the container as by applying adhesive to its outer surface or to the inner surface of the paper. A long casing may be made and cut into short lengths prior to winding on the paper. Impermeable closures, e.g. of metal, are provided at the ends of the container. In one form, a dished metal closure 11 is spun over the end of the container with an interposed jointing disc 13 or a layer of coating material on the flange of the disc or both. In a second form, a detachable closure is composed of an impermeable cardboard disc 14 to which is secured a light metal disc 16 by a fastener 17 provided with a hand grip 19. In a third form, a plug 23 is inserted in a flanged opening 24 of an annular metal member 21 spun over the container with interposed jointing material 22.
