564,364. Compound fabrics. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. Feb. 24, 1943, No. 3050. Convention date, Feb. 25, 1942. [Class 140] A laminated fabric, suitable for sweat bands for hats, garters, belts and suspenders, comprises three layers of fabric united by thermoplastic material contained in at least one of the layers, the inner layer'being a fabric comprising thermoplastic fibres, said fabric being coated with thermoplastic material on one side, and the outer layers being coated with a water-repellent material. The outer layers may comprise a single sheet of bias-cut fabric enclosing a curved strip of fabric forming the inner layer, as described in Specification 558,129, The outer fabrics may also consist wholly or in part of thermoplastic fibres, and their fabric structure may be maintained after hot-pressing by incorporating a plasticizer for the thermoplastic material in the inner layer only. The thermoplastic material may be an organic derivative of cellulose or a synthetic resin, as described in Specification 558,129, and the plasticizers and methods of uniting the layers described therein may also be employed. The water-repellent coating, which is applied to the outer layers before uniting with the middle layer, may comprise an emulsion of aluminium acetate and mineral wax. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (4) comprises also laminated fabrics containing an inner layer of fabric composed of non-thermoplastic fibres such as cotton. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
