Abstract

569,116. Compound sheet materials. NICHOLSON, J. C., and BRITISH ARTIFICIAL RESIN CO., Ltd. June 25, 1943, No. 10328. [Class 140] Laminated sheet material comprising fibrous layers, e.g. woven or knitted fabric or paper united by a thermoplastic material or a thermosetting synthetic resin is protected from water and moisture by applying thereto in the uniting operation an outer layer or lamination of fabric having an outer weave of glass filaments and an inner interlocking weave of cotton, wool, or other absorbent fibres, the said outer layer being coated with or occluded in a thermosetting water-resistant resin which is cured in the uniting operation. The outer layer and the interior layers may all be impregnated with phenol-, cresol- or urea-formaldehyde resin, or the interior layers may be impregnated with cellulose acetate or nitrate, polyvinyl chloride or polystyrene.
