Abstract

562,674. Wireless signalling apparatus. COLLARD, J. Sept. 12, 1941, Nos. 11693/41 and 748/42. [Class 40 (v)] In screened highfrequency electrical apparatus,undesired radiation through apertures and discontinuities in the screen is prevented by the introduction of quarter-wavelength sections at the discontinuities. Fig. 1 shows a pair of coaxial adjusting shafts 9, 10 passing through an aperture 4 in a screen 3 enclosing high-frequency apparatus. The shafts are each provided with three quarter-wave sections 11-13 and 14-16 respectively contained within a sleeve-like extension of the screen 3. The quarter-wave sections are closed at one end and present high impedances in series with the leakage path. This arrangement simultaneously prevents radiation through the aperture and propagation of energy along the shafts. A similar arrangement for a current lead passing through an aperture is also described. Fig. 2 shows the invention applied to a screen with a removable lid L which rests between quarterwave flanges r1, r2 and r3 on a base B. In this case, the space between the flanges may be filled with dielectric. Other modifications are described having a greater number of flanges which may be relatively displaced either radially or axially. In Fig. 3, the leakage path between a lid 18 and box 19 consists in the three quarterwave paths 20, 21 and 22.
