Abstract

562,593. Air cleaners. TALBOYS' MANUFACTURING CO.; Ltd., and SMITH, C. G. Dec. 18, 1942, No. 18046. [Class 8 (ii)] An air cleaner for an internal-combustion engine comprises a casing containing spaced perforated tubes 16 fitted with oil-absorbent material such as a roll of cotton wool &c. and covered by a sleeve of lint or other fabric. The air passes round the tubes which collect the dust. The tubes may be elliptical and disposed in parallel rows, adjacent rows having tubes at right angles. Oil may be conveyed to the fillings and sleeves by capillary wicks extending into an oil well 13. Two or more, chambers may be used in series, e.g. one superposed on another with the tubes in line and the wicks running through both chambers to the oil well. The chambers may be lined with oiled lint. Specifications 552,950 and 562,594, [Group XXXI], are referred to.
