Abstract
562,498. Follow - up switches and valve arrangements. FAIREY AVIATION CO.. Ltd., and PARKER, G. Feb. 26, 1943, No. 3191. [Class 40 (i)] [Also in Groups XXIX and XXXVII] A switch or valve for a follow-up system, e.g. for the control of aircraft wing flaps,is carried by a nut x on a leadscrew m and is operated by a plunger 13 in engagement as shown with the screw which has different diameters at different axial positions. Alternatively the plunger may engage the root of the thread. As shown, the control handle a through a reverted epicyclic gear d, f, c, e and a differential gear q, o, p drives a lead-screw m. As the nut x moves, the plunger 13 moves in one direction or the other to operate a switch or fluid pressure valve to cause a motor to drive the wing flap in the appropriate direction. The motor also drives the sun-wheel p of the differential gear and so causes the rotation of the screw m and the restoration of the nut x to its inoperative position. The motor may drive the flap through a friction clutch and may have a solenoid-controlled friction brake.
