Abstract

562,340. Valve amplifying circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and EWEN, A. W. Dec. 23, 1942, No. 18228. [Class 40 (v)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A rectifying arrangement associated with a negative feed-back amplifier, as in a measuring system, comprises an amplifier adapted to maintain a constant current in the output load despite impedance variations therein for a given signal input and a load comprising oppositely poled rectifiers connected in parallel and separate means for utilizing the current passing each of the rectifiers, or for utilizing the current passing one only. Fig. 4 shows a two-stage amplifier with a negative feed-back resistance RC and a load comprising a pair of diode rectifiers D1, D2 and an associated meter M, the product of the feed-back resistance and the voltage transfer ratio of the amplifier being large compared with the load impedance. The meter may have a single winding arranged in series with one of the rectifiers, Fig. 2, or have a pair of windings, Fig. 3, so poled as to produce deflection in the same direction. Alternatively, the rectifiers may be of the copper oxide or selenium type. Specification 545,535 is referred to.
