[Class 135] A check valve device for closing syphon breaker air vents in the casing of back flow preventers has the valve member provided with an extended portion adapted to be impinged upon by liquid flowing back through the casing. In the form shown in the Figure, a fitting 3 carrying the seat for a hinged non-return valve 5 is inserted in an inlet connection 2. A second valve AC secured to the valve 5 cooperates with a seat S to control air vents V and is provided with an extension in the form of a curved vane AE. In a modification, the extension is formed integrally with the non- return valve and co-operates with the outlet pipe to prevent liquid spitting through the air vents.
