Abstract

Adhesives are prepared by subjecting aqueous dispersions of natural or artificial rubber to oxidation in presence of a metallic catalyst such as a salt of copper, cobalt or manganese, and after the oxidation treating the latex so as to terminate or reduce the catalytic action of the metal salt by addition of either a condensation product of a polyamine and o-hydroxy-substituted aldehyde, e.g. disalicylalethylene diamine, as described in Specification 523,456, or dinitrosoresorcinol, or a condensation product obtained from acetylacetone and ethylene diamine or sodium p-(2-hydroxy-1-naphthylazo) benzene sulphonate. The oxidation may be effected by treatment with oxygen, air or other oxidizing agent. Specification 442,136 is also referred to.
