Abstract

561,342. Lubricating systems. TECALEMIT, Ltd., and LE CLAIR, C. C. S. Oct. 2, 1942, No. 13888. [Class 12 (iii)] In an engine lubricating system wherein the whole of the circulating oil is passed through a coarse filter at every circuit, part of the oil is withdrawn and forced by a supplementary pump through a fine filter, this oil being returned to the system. Oil drawn from a main tank 1 by pipe 2 is forced by pump 3 through a coarse filter 4 and pipe 5 to the engine bearings, the oil being returned from the engine sump 6 and pipes 8, 9 by the scavenge pump 7. Part of the oil is forced by pipes 15 . . . 17 through a motor 13 which actuates the supplementary pump 12 to draw oil by pipes 11, 14 from pipe 15 and force it through a fine filter 10 and pipe 18 to the suction pipe 2. This filtered oil may be returned instead to the tank 1, the sump 6, or the pipe 8. The force pump 12 could instead draw unfiltered oil from the main circuit, as well as the motor 13. In a modification, the tank 1 and pump 7 are omitted, pipe 8 leading back to pipe 2.
