561,332. Converting. STEVENS, A. H. (Electronic Laboratories, Inc.). May 20, 1942, No. 6875. [Class 38 (ii)] In an arrangement whereby d.c. from a source 25, 26 is converted into a.c. in a load circuit 16 by means of a self-interrupter 10 which supplies an intermittent current to the two halves of the centrally-tapped primary 12 of a transformer 11, the intermittent currents proceed from the reed 17 through contacts such as 19, 21 in parallel circuits which lead to the transformer primary through inductances 43, 41 and capacitors 29, 30 are also arranged between each pair of contacts such as 19, 20 on opposite sides of the reed. The arrangement is such that should a simultaneous break not occur at the contapts 19, 21, the current from the contact that first breaks cannot be transferred to the contact that has not yet broken. Thus a longer life to the contacts is assured. Two inductance windings, such as 41, 42, are preferably wound on a single core with an air gap so that their fluxes are additive.
