491,732. Converting. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 12, 1937, No. 7327. Convention date, March 12, 1936. [Class 38 (ii)] In an inverter in which a vibrating switch 20 is arranged to cause current to pass alternately through the two halves of a centretapped winding 13 which may be the primary of a transformer feeding the A.C. load circuit 11, a commutating condenser 26 is connected across the winding 13, and rectifiers 16, 17 which may be of the copper-oxide type are inserted in the leads from the ends of the winding 13 to prevent short-circuiting of the commutating condenser on closure of the contacts on one side of the switch prior to opening of the contacts on the other side. The switch is enclosed in an exhausted envelope 30 and is maintained in vibration by windings 35, 36 connected across its contacts. Starting is effected by a winding 40 which, on closure of a switch 39, is momentarily supplied with current from a condenser 37 connected across the D.C. supply 10 through a high resistance 38.
