[Class 38 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A socket contact for a coupling or lampholder comprises a fixed plate with which cooperates a floating plate pressed by a spring to grip a blade inserted between the plates. In one form, both plates 11, Fig. 1, are of conducting material, the fixed plates forming part of a structure 2 attached to a cable 3, and the floating plates being connected thereto by flexible strips 6 and supported on springs 4. Recesses 10 receive an enlarged end 9 on the blade contact 8 and lock it in place. In a modification, the floating plate 15, Fig. 2, is of insulating material and acts under pressure of springs 16 to hold the blade 8, Fig. 3, in contact with the fixed plate 14. The enlarged end 9 of the blade is of insulating material and the entry aperture 17, 18 is so arranged that only insulating parts come into contact until the blade is fully inserted. The enlargement 9 then drops into recesses 10 and the bent' part 12 of the blade rests on the slope 17 allowing the blade 8 to lie in close contact with the plate 14. In a wall socket, the earthing pin only may be furnished with the locking enlargement. In a lamp holder 33, Fig. 8, the socket is rectangular and the lamp cap is of corresponding shape with contact surfaces 39 on two opposite faces. The floating contact plates 35 in the holder are acted upon by springs 38 and engage under the enlargements 39<1> on the lamp cap.
