Abstract
561,006. Stuffing-boxes. WEIR, Ltd., G. & J., and SIM, J. Feb. 18, 1943, No. 2712. [Class 122 (v)] Leakage steam is extracted from steam glands of main turbines, auxiliary engines &c., and air drawn into the glands, by an air ejector A, B, C provided for evacuating a condenser such as the inter-condenser L, Fig. 3, of a turbine M having a main condenser J exhausted by an ejector H. The ejector A, B, C may be located outside the body of the cooler E, to which it delivers, or as shown in Fig. 1 may pass through the cooler, through which main condensate may pass leaving by the exit G. A drain Z to the main condenser may be provided in the branch D leading from the glands to the ejector. The glands may be provided with carbon rings or labyrinth packing.
