Abstract
560,578. Escape hatches. BOOTH, J. H., and PERFECTA MOTOR EQUIPMENTS, Ltd. Nov. 5, 1942, No. 15582. [Class 4] An escape hatch construction for an aircraft body comprises a panel 37 with a releasable fastening 45, 46, and 29, Fig. 6, at one edge and a hook engagement 50, 53 at the opposite edge, which will be self-releasing when the fastened edge is moved outwardly after release. The fastening means, further shown in section, Fig. 7, comprises angle brackets, carried by the panel 37, with flanges 45 inserted between spaced flanges 29 of brackets mounted on the body wall 16, a locking bolt 46 passing through holes in the flanges 45, 29 and being connected to a flexible cable 47, which passes through a sleeve 35 rotatable so as to exert tension on the cable by pulling down an operating handle 39. In a modification a rigid tension rod operated by a rotatable sleeve is connected to the locking bolt. Resilient packing 24 is mounted in channels of metal lining members 19 of the body wall and is bent down by angle members 42 lining the panel 37.
