532,579. Emergency exit fastenings. SAFELOCKS, Ltd., BENABO. J., and EDSON, A. D. Sept. 7, 1939, No. 3965/40. Divided out of 532,554. [Class 44] In a panic bolt fastening in which the casing 12 carrying the crushbar lever 14, 15 is associated with a catch which engages a notch in a bolt for holding the bolts in retracted position, means are provided for releasing the catch from the exterior of the door. The invention is described as applied to the fastening described in Specification 532,554 which comprises two bolts 16, 17 connected by a rocker 20 so as to be simultaneously shot by spring 24 or released by crush-bar lever 14, 15, a sliding catch 31 being mounted on the casing 12 and adapted to engage a notch 26 in bolt 16, under action of spring 33, to retain both bolts in retracted position. The catch is releasable by knob 29. As shown, the catch is also releasable by a lever 41 pivoted at 67, and provided with external fingerpiece 40, its inner end engaging the catch. The invention is also shown as combined with an external handle 45 for operating rocker 20 to retract bolts 16, 17, the handle having locking means as described in Specification 532,580. This handle is mounted on a plate 39 secured to the door by screws 43 the heads of which are covered by casing 12. Lever 41 is pivoted at 67 to a lug on the plate, which is also provided with a fixed finger-grip 66, for use as a purchase in operating finger-piece 40.
