Abstract
560,090. Laminated springs. GRAAN, L. R. VAN. July 10, 1942, No. 9585. [Class 108 (iii)] Relates to a laminated spring for vehicles in which a bow spring member 6 or 7 is arranged upon each end portion of the main leaf 2 with its ends bearing respectively against the end and towards the centre of the main leaf. According to the invention, one leaf 3 of the remaining spring leaves is extended at each end 15, 16 where it is connected to the bow spring member above it so that the leaf 3 acts as a shock blade to damp rebound. As shown, each spring member 6, 7 consisting of spring steel blades, is of double bow or M-shape and is formed at its outer end 8 to embrace the eye 4 or 5 of the main leaf 2. Each member is held in position at its centre by a U-bolt 17 or 18 engaging a depression in the member and connected at its ends to a blade 19 riveted to the extension 15 or 16 of the leaf 3, while at its inner end each member is riveted to a U- shaped strap 11 held in position by a cross bolt 13 passing beneath the spring. The inward movement of the members is limited by a plate 23 engaged by clamping means (not shown) which fixes the spring to the vehicle axle.
