Abstract

481,654. Anti skid devices; vehicle bumpers. HANEL, F. Sept. 17, 1937, No. 25292. [Classes 103 (ii) and 108 (ii)] In an anti-skid device comprising a weight which counteracts the skid-producing forces and which is displaceably mounted on a transverse guide path the latter path is of a straight construction. As shown two weights 2, 3 are slidably arranged in a transverse tube 1 with a spring 4 arranged between them and springs 5, 6 arranged between them and the ends of the tube. The springs may be secured to the weights and to the tube respectively. The tube 1 is mounted by supports 9 from a transverse member 10 and if desired the supports 9 may comprise leaf springs. The springs 4 .. 6 may be replaced by other springs such as rubber, hydraulic, &c. In action a movement of the vehicle to one side causes the weights, owing to their inertia, to move relatively to the other side and cause a reactive force tending to counteract the skidding force. The tube may be replaced by a bar on which weights slide and the tube may form the rear bumper.
