Abstract

560,000. Preventing dimming of double windows. RUNNERSTROM, A. Sept. 10, 1942, No. 12774. Convention date, Sept. 24, 1941. [Class 20 (iii)] [Also in Group XX] A method of filling the space between hermetically sealed glass sheets, forming windows or eyepieces, with dry air, consists in supplying air by a pump 8 and drying tube 3 filled with calcium chloride to a hose 4 and tapered mouthpiece 5 inserted into a hole 6 in the joint between the sheets 1, the air being exhausted by an ejector 13 connected by a hose 11 to a tapered mouthpiece 5 inserted into an opposite hole 9. The pressure between the panes is built up by the pump 8 so that when each mouthpiece is removed in turn and its hole plugged, dried air passes outwards through the hole and prevents the entry of the surrounding air and of the moisture it contains. The pressure of the enclosed gas may alternatively be increased by raising its temperature.
