The drum 1 is furnished with a circumferential trap 4a communicating with the interior of the drum by an opening 5 and which is provided with a rearward extending pocket 7 into which powder falls as the trap ascends. On the downward phase of the rotation of the trap 4a the powder gravitates from the pocket 7 and is discharged at the open end 8 of the trap, in amounts which are equal and independent of the level of the powder within the drum. The trap may discharge into a second similar trap 4b extending in the opposite direction and furnished with a pocket 9, the powder thus being delivered on the rising phase of this second trap. The discharged powder may fall on a vibrating sieve before reaching the shoot 18, and this sieve may take the form of a perforated sleeve 15 surrounding and rotating with the drum 1, and performing also a limited axial reciprocating movement. The perforations 12 are coarse, and register with holes 14 in a surrounding removable cylinder 13, the holes 14 being graduated in size so that delivery to the drums is rendered more continuous. Large particles which cannot drop through the holes 4 are guided by a ledge 21 and inclined shoots to laterally disposed receptacles 23.
