[Class 82 (ii)] In a sand and gravel washing and screening apparatus of the kind in which the grading screen is in the form of a perforated cylinder rotating within a stationary tank a and there is a coritra-flow of water to that of the solid material through the tank, inner and outer helical blades l, l<1> are rigidly and indirectly connected to the driving shaft f by means of an open frame carrier which removes all propellant stresses of the blades from the-cylinder and which is formed of a plurality of radial rods h to the outer ends of which are secured, by nuts h<1>, bars which with the rods h form the spider of the carrier. The blades l, l<1> are secured to angle irons k themselves secured to the inner and outer faces of the bars j. Between the irons k and bars j are clamped the perforated screen members m which form a cylindrical screen having perforate or imperforate ends m<1>. The large particles are removed from the open outlet of the screen by buckets n mounted in irons o and discharged into a shoot p while the material which passes through the screen is propelled to the outlet by the blades l<1> and is removed by buckets q mounted in the ends of the bars and delivered to a shoot r.
