Abstract

557,668. Windscreen cleaners. TAYLOR. J. T. Nov. 2, 1942, No. 15374. [Class 138 (i)] In a windscreen wiper clear vision in all weathers is ensured by employing means for discharging a gas, vapour, or liquid on to the screen by means of an arm or distributer member movable over the screen and connected to a hollow body mounted on the wiper shaft. In Fig. 1, the wiper 5 is mounted in an oscillating hollow member 1 to which are secured two pipes 6 perforated for discharging hot air admitted to the member 1 by a flexible tube, or by a rotary air-tight joint. In Fig. 6, is shown means for producing a stream of hot air, or a mixture of steam and hot air, in which a pump 43 is actuated by the exhaust of an internal combustion engine 44, and delivers air through a muff 45 around the exhaust and thence via a tube 47 to the member 1 and distributer 48. A hand-pump 50 can project water into the muff when a mixture of steam and hot air is required. In further modifications a wiper blade may be arranged on each side of a distributing tube, or the distributing member is provided with side shields to prevent deflection of the discharge by outside air pressure.
