557,510. Swash-plate and like pumps and engines. JENNINGS, H. W. K. (Acrotorque Co.). June 17, 1941, No. 7661. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Sept. 26, 1942.] [Classes 8 (i) and 102 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] A stationary cylinder pump or engine in which the rotating shaft carries a swash-plate &c. 17 connected to the pistons 43 and automatically adjustable to vary the stroke; is formed with two series of valve bores containing inlet and delivery valves 45, 46 respectively and opening to the cylinders, the valves being actuated from the shaft ; the stroke-adjusting means comprises a rod &c. 31 urged against the fluid pressure by springs 65 towards the maximum stroke position. The rod carries a rack engaging a pinion on a shaft carrying also pinions 27 which engage racks 25 carried by the swashplate. The fluid pressure acts on the rod 31 through a tapered portion 63 between cylindrical sleeves 62, 62<SP>1</SP> forming extensions of a follower supported by an enlargement 59 of the rod. The valves are held closed as required by fluid pressure and by springs. The shaft is in two hollow portions pinned together.
