[Class 112] [Also in Group XXVI] In a sewing-machine, in which the main shaft 7 has at each end a balance-wheel 16, which is formed with a belt groove 18 and is held on the shaft by a set-screw 33, lubricating-oil passing along the shaft is prevented from reaching the exterior of the balancewheel by a flange 20 on the hub of the wheel, which contains an oil-collecting groove 22 communicating by radial ports 23 with the exterior of the flange, so that oil collecting in the groove is thrown outwards by centrifugal action. The flange 20 is enclosed in a cavity 24 formed in the shaft-bearing 8, from which the oil is returned through a passage 25 to a splashlubricating compartment 4, which encloses the shaft and the working parts of the machine. The shaft has a helical groove 32, which feeds excess oil back into the rubricating compartment.
