Abstract

631,558. Drive mechanism in paper-making machines. SCHOFIELD, G. J. Oct. 30, 1947, No. 28940. Convention date, June 22, 1945. [Class 96] The lead-screw for reciprocating the nozzle of a wire- or felt-cleaning appliance across a papermaking machine is driven through automatic reversing gear (not shown), a shaft 24, a clutch 28, a pinion 26 and a spur gear 56 or spur gears 81 and 56, on stub shafts 54, 80 which are interchangeable and are driven by a pulley 84 &c., the arrangement providing for rotation of the shaft 24 in the right direction from any convenient point on the machine. Each of the shafts 24, 54, 80 has an axial lubricating .passage connected by a radial bore with a circumferential groove registering with a port in the bearing. The lead-screw is in a sleeve lubricated via a ported block bearing against its rim.
