Abstract
556,787. Motors operating by thermally produced changes of magnetic permeability. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. (General Electric Co.). May 29, 1942, No. 7324. [Class 35] [Also in Group XL] The anode of an X-ray tube is driven by a stationary magnet 37 coacting with an annulus of magnetic material 31 which is mounted on the anode structure, and is heated at a focal point adjacent the magnet to its critical inversion temperature. The annulus is secured to the back of the anode target 27, and consists of iron cobalt, nickel or alloys. The anode has a cylindrical extension 25 which is mounted on a spindle 43 rotating on bearings 37, 41 inside a tubular pedestal 17 sealed through the end of the envelope 13 by means of a disc 21 and sleeve 23. The magnet may consist of two parts 33, 37 and is secured to the pedestal by a bracket 35 and screws. The bearings may be lubricated by means such as described in Specification 542,665, [Group II].
