556,629. Floors and roofs. LEWIS, B. B., and LEWIS & SONS, Ltd., A. P. May 21, 1942, No. 6946. Addition to 543,934. [Class 20 (iv)] The concrete floor, roof or the like described in the parent Specification is modified in that (a) each of the precast beams 1 is of a substantially triangular cross-section and has formed in its sides deep grooves 5, the bottom 6 of which slopes downwardly while the back 7 is wholly or partly concave so that the grooves key with and form a strong bond with the in situ concrete, and (b) the structure is lightened by embedding in the concrete filling 8 hollow members 21 of circular or other cross-section. Preferably the members 21 may be arranged in alignment to form a conduit for gas, water, electric wires &c., while the spaces between the beams 1 are bridged by means of tiles 13 adapted to be suspended, prior to the running in of the in situ concrete, upon the lower edges of the beams. Links 19 interposed between the looped ends 20 of the tie rods 10 maintain the continuity of the transverse reinforcement of the structure. Straps 23 engaging the grooves 5 may be employed to retain the hollow members 21 in position during the filling-in of the concrete.
