Abstract

556,302. Separating rusted-up machine parts &c. DESHAW, Z. Dec. 26, 1941, Nos. 16682/41 and 16528/42. Divided out of and addition to 556,269. [Class 41] Metal parts one or each of which is of a metal other than iron or steel e.g. copper or brass which have become cemented together by corrosion are separated bv electrolytic action in an alkaline bath. Separation may be effected by connecting each part individually either to the anode or cathode of the bath a bar of a metal unaffected by the electrolyte being employed as the cathode or anode. In the case of surfaces having a film of oil or grease included between them anodic followed if necessary by cathodic treatment is found to be effective. To assist the degreasing effect grease-dispersing agents may be added to the electrolyte. Alternatively the parts may be submitted to degreasing treatment prior to electrolysis.
