Abstract

556,269. Separating rusted-up machine parts &c. DESHAW, Z. Dec. 24, 1941, No. 16643. [Class 41 ] Rust is removed from iron and steel machinery parts by connecting the elements of the machine individually to the negative or positive terminal of an elecrolytic circuit in an alkaline bath. Where oil or grease is still present between the rusted-up members anodic treatment followed if necessary by cathodic treatment is found effective. A suitable current density is 40 amperes per square foot of cathode surface. To assist the degreasing effect grease dispersing agents may be added to the electrolyte, which may consist of any alkaline composition found suitable for cleaning before plating operations. Alternatively the parts may be submitted to degreasing treatmen prior to electrolysis.
