Abstract
496,113. Electrodeposition of metals. THOMAS, A. R. March 23, 1937, Nos. 8488 and 9129. [Class 4I] A grid electrode 3 is mounted between an anode supplying metal to the bath and the cathode 2, the grid being connected to a source of alternating current in such manner as to be alternately at positive and negative potential with respect to the diode. The anodes may be mounted in cylindrical containers 8 from which electrolyte is projected at high velocity from nozzles 7 through the grid. Alternatively the containers 8 may constitute the anodes. The anode-cathode circuit may be supplied from a motor-generator and the grid from a transformer. For deposition of nickel suitable potential values are anode to cathode 2À9 volts, grid to cathode 3À3 volts R.M.S.; for deposition of aluminium suitable values are anode to cathode 9À3 volts, grid to cathode 10À6 volts R.M.S. The invention is applicable to apparatus of the type in which an anode covered by porous material impregnated with electrolyte is moved over a cathode surface, the grid in this case being embedded in the porous material.
