Abstract
521,290. Electrolytic surface treatment of aluminium and its alloys. COMPAGNIE DE PRODUITS CHIMIQUES ET ELECTROMETALLURGIQUES ALAIS, FROGES, ET CAMARGUE. Nov. 11, 1938, No. 32849. Convention date, Nov. 15, 1937. [Class 41] Surfaces of aluminium or its alloys, are cleaned and polished by subjecting the article to electrolytic action as anode in a bath which does not attack the metal and which consists either of concentrated caustic soda or sodium sulphide at about 30‹C. or of dilute caustic soda or sodium sulphide saturated with a neutral salt of an alkali metal such as sodium sulphate, at about 60‹C. The viscosity of the bath may be increased by adding glycerine or colloids, or by adding substances such as turkey red oil or sulphonated oils which increase the viscosity at the anode. Alternating current may be used, the aluminium surface having a rectifying action.
