Abstract

556,278. Bricks. METHVEN, F. D. March 24, 1942, No. 3915. [Class 87 (i)] A building brick of triangular, rectangular or other regular outline and provided with openended grooves in the top and bottom faces and open-ended vertical grooves in two or more of the vertical faces adapted to receive reinforcing rods has a vertical groove or grooves in a side face or faces arranged in staggered relation to the adjacent ends of the grooves in the ton and bottom faces. The rectangular brick 20, Fig. 1, which is the size of a standard brick except that it is of only half width has its upper and lower faces provided with a longitudinal groove 22 intersected by transverse grooves 30 spaced apart a distance equal to the brick width, the end grooves being half this distance from the ends. The vertical end faces have vertical grooves 48 and the side faces vertical grooves 40 staggered relatively to the grooves 30. Fig. 2 shows a triangular brick with intersecting grooves 62, 66 on the top and bottom faces and vertical grooves 70, 72, 74 in the middle of the three side faces. Fig. 7 shows in plan view an assembly of three courses constructed from triangular bricks with the bricks of the three courses arranged in staggered relation one above another and vertical and horizontal reinforcement rods 89, 90 in the grooves.
