Abstract
555,425. Alloys ; annealing. MAGNAL PRODUCTS, Ltd., ALLEN, F. A., MORGAN, J., and BRACE, A. W. Feb. 18, 1942, No. 2174. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] Aluminium alloys containing 3-6 per cent. of slicon, 2-4 per cent. of copper, and 0.05-0.15 per cent. of magnesium, with or without other elements or impurities such as iron, manganese and nickel, are made by melting a charge consisting wholly or principally of scrap, and treating the melt with a flux containing at least one alkali metal compound to effect purification and modification. The resulting alloy may be heated at 160-200‹C. for 4-6 hours, or it may be age hardened by solution heating, e.g. at 500- 530 ‹C. and quenching, with or without subsequent reheating.
